Obituary

Glenva Rose Cannon, 84, died October 25, 2026, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, Kan.

She was born April 2, 1942, on the family farm in Gosper County, Neb., to Gilbert and Alma (Sander) Chadwick. She lived there for the first 14 years of her life, and in some ways she never left it. As an active little girl, she enjoyed playing with the piglets, and she liked to crawl onto the roof of the barn’s workshop and read, surrounded by cats.

The family moved to Valley Center, Kan., and Glenva graduated from Valley Center High School in 1960. Afterward, the family moved to Newton, Kan. There, she worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and met Larry Cannon. They married June 23, 1963.

Larry’s job later took them to Parsons, Kan., and then to Meade, Kan., where the family lived for seven and a half years. Glenva was a high soprano in the church choir and directed the children’s choir for a few years.

In 1973, the family moved to Hutchinson and joined Faith United Methodist Church. Glenva was in the choir and often sang solos during worship services. She also did music with the church’s children. She was twice president of the church’s United Methodist Women. She organized sending care packages to the church’s college students, and she was in charge of funeral dinners for many years. She also was often asked to sing at funerals. She was a Cub Scout den mother, volunteered at the Fair Price Clothing Store, and helped Larry deliver Meals on Wheels.

She was a devoted wife to Larry, a loving mother to her sons, and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren. Family was the most important thing in her life.

Glenva was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leslie (Violet) Chadwick and Clyde Chadwick; her sister, Verna (Lloyd) Carter; and nephew, Harold Carter.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; her sons, Bryon and Neil (Brenda); her grandchildren, Hailey (Jason) Arnold, and Aaron, Alex, and Jarod (Dakotah) Cannon; and her great-grandchildren, Pearl Arnold, and Jack and Joseph Cannon.
