Obituary

Goldie Grace Childs, 94, died Friday, January 11, 2013. She was born in rural Buhler, Kansas, June 24, 1918, the daughter of Willis O. and Goldie C. Hegarty Hopper.

She was a graduate of Hutchinson High School, Sterling College and Fort Hays State University, belonged to Plevna Community Bible Church, a Plevna 4-H Leader, the clerk for the City of Plevna, NEA and retired from teaching at the Stafford Middle School in 1983.

On May 23, 1948, she married Roy Edward Childs in Hutchinson. He died November 3, 1990. Survivors include: their children and spouses, Everett and Beth, Olathe, Arthur and Jane, Hutchinson, Virginia and Kent Holcomb, Derby, Roy Lee and Kara, Papillion, Neb., Dean, Plevna, and Glen and Cindy, Hutchinson; one sister, Lorine Webb, Stockton; 15 grandchildren, Adam Childs, Piper Childs, Lindsey Rose, Isaiah Childs, Erin, Matthew, Nathan, Jared and Joshua Holcomb, Chad, Bradley, Hannah and Amanda Childs, Jason and Kevin Childs; and 16 great-grandchildren; Gracie, Jada, Trey, Jackson, Avery, Roy Wesley, Madeline, Cohen, Kayla, Devon, Luc, Jake, Elsie, Emmett, Lafayette and Evelyn. She was preceded in death by brothers, Milton and Orville, sisters, Francis, Willa, Donna, Jean and Lavita and a grandson Nathaniel Childs.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Plevna Community Bible Church with Pastor David E. Green officiating. Her register book will be available 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Plevna Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association, or to the church, both in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
