Obituary

Gordon L. Willems, 66, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born March 11, 1950, in Hutchinson, to Pete and Esther (Loepp) Willems.

Gordon graduated from Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson Community College and the University of Kansas, with a degree in accounting. He worked at Pierce Faris, Kansas Oxygen, Dillon Employees Credit Union and El Cap Credit Union in Hutchinson; and the Credit Union of Dodge City, Dodge City Community College, the Silver Spur Lodge and Convention Center, and Schroeder's Software in Dodge City. Gordon was a member of First Mennonite Church.

On Nov. 24, 1973, he married Judy Petty in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: his mother; daughters, Angela Koehn (Craig) of Montezuma and Stefanie Willems of Hutchinson; grandson, Andrew Jonas Koehn of Monetzuma; brother, Ray Willems (Arlene) of Hutchinson; sister, Linda Barone of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Patricia Enlow (Al) of Coppell, Texas; nephews, Steven Enlow (Kendall), Todd Willems (Staci), Bret Willems (Dani), Shane Barone, Shawn Barone; great-nephews, John Enlow, Beau Willems; great-niece, Sage Enlow; and a host of special aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by: his father; brother-in-law, Ron Barone; and parents-in-law, Jack and Lorene Petty.

Gordon was taken from this world suddenly and much too soon, and will be greatly missed as a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandpa, and friend. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed KU basketball. Gordon was a lifelong learner and enjoyed spending time at the library reading and researching. His morning coffee group at McDonald's was very dear to him and he greatly appreciated the companionship and discussions. He was a proud member of the Hutchinson High Class of 1968 and enjoyed keeping in touch with classmates and helping them to stay connected with one another. He took great joy in serving others and lending a helping hand, and was devoted to his family.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Rd., Hutchinson, with Pastor Tonya Remer Wenger officiating. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hutchinson Public Library or donor's choice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
