Graydon L. Scott, 82, died March 30, 2008 at his home.
He was born Sept. 23 1925, the son of Mary Elizabeth Collins and Roy Scott. He graduated from Ottumwa, Iowa, High School. After World War II he moved to work with his mother and stepfather on the John C. Jones Ranch south of Garden City. He retired in 1983 as president of the Insurance Center of Kansas.
He belonged to the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church. He was the past president of the South Hutchinson Lions Club;, South Hutchinson Commercial Club; Hutchinson Independent Ins. Agents; Board of Directors, Bank of Kansas; Kansas Assoc. of Mutual Insurance Agents; American Legion Lysle Rishel Post # 68; and Hutchinson Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. and A.M. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy Seabees. After the war he served in Kansas National Guard and the Army Reserves as a 1st Lieutenant.
In 1947, he married Olivia Corrine Nelson of Larned in Wichita. She died in 1948. In 1949, he married Dora Mignon Thrasher of Arlington. She survives.
Survivors include: sons, John L. Scott, Phoenix, Ariz., Steve L. Scott and wife Michelle, Wichita; daughters Laura Harrell and husband Jim, Sardie, Miss., and Nan Hawer and husband Jerry, Sylvia; six grandchildren, Tab Harrell, Troy Harrell, Chris Hawer, Jill Peck, Matthew Graydon Scott, Corey Scott; and five great-grandsons, Cade, Nick and Jack Hawver, Graydon and Cameron Peck.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Lynn Scott.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tim Ault-Duell presiding. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elliot Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be Penwell-Gable Cemetery and Mausoleum. Military graveside honors by the Naval Honor Guard.
