Guy Leroy Summers, Jr., 96, died Feb. 12, 2012, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson, Ks.
He was born July 13, 1915, in Republic County, near Mahaska, Ks., the son of Guy Leroy Summers, Sr. and Alta May Coonrod Summers.
He graduated from Mahaska High School in 1932. A resident of Hutchinson since 1955, Leroy worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, working in the Wellington, Winfield, Harper, Garden City and Hutchinson areas, retiring after 39 1/2 years of service. He was a former member and past president of the Downtown Lions Club, a charter member of the Hutchinson Toastmasters Club, and a 60-year member of the Harper Masonic Lodge, life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a former volunteer at Hutchinson Public Library in the Talking Books Department.
On July 3, 1941, he married Evelyn Mae Evey in Wellington, Ks. She died Dec. 26, 2010.
He is survived by: two daughters, Marla Wilcox and husband LaVon of rural Little River, Sharla Cooper and husband Kem of Topeka; four grandchildren, Andrea Willard and husband David of rural Windom, Andrew Wilcox and wife Molly of Brisbane, Australia, Kaela Wegeng and husband Stephen of Wichita, and Keesha Cooper of Wichita.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, Doris Ward.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Theresa Forshee presiding. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through time of service Thursday.
Memorials may be made to Meals On Wheels or the Hutchinson Community Foundation, in care of the mortuary.
