Obituary

Gwendolyn O. "Gwynn" Ekum, 74, died Feb. 1, 2006, at Hospice House.

She was born Aug. 22, 1931, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Cyrus N. and Irene Haworth Roth. She was a 1949 McPherson High School graduate and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo. A longtime McPherson resident, she moved to Hutchinson in 1995 from Springdale, Ark. She was a retired co-owner and secretary with Mid-Kansas Produce and Western Ice of McPherson.

She belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church. She was a member of Women of E.L.C.A., Veterans of Foreign Wars Bob Campbell Post No. 1361 Auxiliary, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68 Auxiliary and was a longtime volunteer of Hutchinson and McPherson Memorial hospitals.

On Nov. 12, 1950, she married Tom Ekum in McPherson. He survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Richard Ekum, Wichita, and Craig Ekum, McPherson; two daughters, Kristi Ekum, Dodge City, and Kimberly Ekum Anthony Harris, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Paul Roth, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Barbara Unrein, Great Bend; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Loren Mai presiding. Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. in McPherson City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 1 to 3 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
