H. Duane Haltom Sr., 76, died Dec. 6, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born March 23, 1935, at Sterling, the son of Roscoe and Maxine Hughes Haltom.
He was a 1953 graduate of Alden High School, a member of First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, United Methodist Men, Crimestoppers of Reno County and was in law enforcement for 43 years working for Reno County Sheriff's Department, Kansas Highway Patrol and Kansas Department of Revenue as a special investigator.
On Dec. 16, 1954, he married Mary Jane Tucker. She survives.
Other survivors include: their children and spouses, Randall and Polly of Hutchinson, Duane Jr. of Wichita, Cindy and Larry Kerschner of Hutchinson, Debi and Terry Porter of Shawnee, Jack of Rozel, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Jason, Sarah and husband Deston, Jeremy, Jennifer and Jesse, Emily, Ashley and Jackson; three great-grandchildren, C.J., Will and Corinne; and pet companion, Mickey Dog. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother, Dwight.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with Pastors Mark Conard and Jeanine Rishel officiating. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, with Kansas Highway Patrol Honors. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
Memorial gifts may be made to the National Jewish Health Center Research for Pulmonary Fibrosis, Hospice of Reno County or to the church, in care of the mortuary.
