Obituary

Hanna Schimpf Wood went to Heaven on Jan. 31, 2012, after spreading love and joy for 96 years. Hanna was born Sept. 19, 1915, in Marion, to Henry and Christina Hopp Schimpf.

She graduated from Marion High School in 1934 and attended beauty school. Hanna married James Melvin Wood on Jan. 15, 1937, in Marion. He died Sept. 8, 1967. Hanna was a fun and loving mother, grandmother and friend.

Hanna is survived by: her son, Roger Wood and wife Jackie of Wichita; daughter, Sylvia Griggs and husband Bill of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Val Koch and husband Jim of Wichita, Andrea Wood and fiancé Rich Bazzanella of Stuart, Fla., Tina Wood of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Chloe Koch of Wichita, Adriane Wood Maeda of Stuart, Fla.; and her beloved cat, Louie. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Henry, Louie and Alex Schimpf; sisters, Emma Allen, Leah Stenzel, Rachel MacGown, Lydia Batt, and baby sister, Eva.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at Burrton Cemetery, with Reverend Mark Conard officiating. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, 101 E. 1st, with Reverend Mark Conard and Pastor Jeanine I. Rishel officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Wesley Towers Good Samaritan Fund, in care of the mortuary. The family wants to thank Dr. Scheel, his staff, and Wesley Towers Thorne 300 hall staff and support for their loving care and support.
