Wilkens
February 2, 1930 – November 14, 2020
Harlan R. Wilkens, 90, of Hutchinson, died November 14, 2020, at Hospice House. He was born February 2, 1930, in Ellsworth to August and Rosa (Janzen) Wilkens.
Harlan graduated from Lorraine High School in 1948. He spent two years at Kansas Wesleyan University before serving in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954, during the Korean War. Harlan then graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1956. For 30 years he was a rural mail carrier in Ellsworth County. Harlan was a member of Westside Baptist Church
On October 20, 1950, he married Norma Lee Sewing in Lyons. They shared 69 years of marriage before her passing on December 23, 2019.
Harlan is survived by: son, Greg Wilkens (Marilyn), Hutchinson; daughter, Kay Wickham (Greg), Andover; grandchildren, Andrew Wickham (Leah), Cari Smothermon (Wes), Lynette Wilkens, all of Wichita, Denise Nisly (Tony), Hutchinson; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma Wilkens; sister, Wilma Janssen; and brother, Donald Wilkens.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Lorraine Baptist Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Adrian officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Westside Baptist Church or Lorraine Baptist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
