Obituary

Harlond D. Bruce, 93, died June 11, 2010, at his home in South Hutchinson.

He was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Herndon, the son of George William and Roxy F. Morris Bruce.

He had lived in the Hutchinson area for 35 years, moving here from Atwood. He farmed in Rawlins County until he moved, and then owned and operated Bruce's Cycles and Accessories in Hutchinson. He attended school at White Dove School in Rawlins Co., and later served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #46 at Atwood.

He married Ruby H. Havel on Nov. 28, 1941 in St. Francis. She died July 16, 2004.

Survivors include: sons, Weslye Bruce and wife Mary, Fred Bruce and wife Diana, all of South Hutchinson, and Max Bruce and wife Ruth, Leawood; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the Atwood Fairview Cemetery at Atwood. Graveside military honors will be provided by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Mr. Bruce will lie in state at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, on Tuesday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
