Harold L. Harris, 68, died Dec. 21, 2005, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born Aug. 19, 1937, in Ada, Okla., the son of William Otis and Maude Ann Detty Harris. He graduated from Sylvia High School, Hutchinson Community College and earned a degree from the National Crime Prevention Institute.
A longtime resident of Reno County, he worked for the Hutchinson Police Department from 1963 to 1992, and was with the Reno County Sheriff's Department from 1994 to the present.
He belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church. He received the Hutchinson Police Department Outstanding Community Service Award in 1986; was a charter member and former board member of Kansas State Crimestoppers Association; charter member and former board member of Kansas Crime Prevention Association; was a Reno County Crimestoppers coordinator for seven and a half years, where he was a charter board member and was a member of Hutchinson Rotary Club. He served in the U.S. Army.
On Jan. 30, 1970, he married Connie Miles in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Darin and wife, Denise, Yukon, Okla.; a daughter, Jennifer Neuschafer and husband, Brandon, St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Kenneth, Lenexa; and four sisters, Nellye Drake and Peggy Long, both of Hutchinson, Billye Brennan, Las Vegas, Nev., and Sharon Hall, Sylvia.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey and Loren Mai presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.
