Obituary

Harold Eugene Moorman, 78, died Feb. 25, 2010, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born May 19, 1931 at rural Nickerson in the home of his parents, William L. and Laura C. Osenbaugh Moorman. He attended Centennial Grade School and graduated in 1948, from Reno Community High School in Nickerson.

Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, with 14 months in Korea. He earned an A.A. degree in 1956 at Hutchinson Junior College. This was followed by a B.S. in 1960 and an M.S. in Industrial Arts from Fort Hays University in 1963. He taught at Hamilton, Kan. High School, Hutchinson Liberty Junior High and Hutchinson High School, retiring in 1991.

In 1999, he began working at Elliott Mortuary. He belonged to Countryside Baptist Church, the International Organization of Barbershop Harmony Society, and was charter member of Hutchinson's Salt Minors Barbershop Chorus. On July 29, 1955, he married Juco classmate Myrna Beth Becker at Bushton, Kan. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Randall (Lorie) of Smithville, Mo.; daughters Susan (Dan) Castle of Hutchinson, and Patricia (David) Monis of O'Fallon, Mo.; sister Karen (Neil) Thompson of Hutchinson; step-brother Don (Barbara) Peterson of Clifton, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Other survivors: aunts Bertha Moorman, South Hutchinson, and Helen Osenbaugh, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brothers-in-law Bobby Newton, Hinsdale, Ill., Virgil (Georgia) Becker, Weir; Charles (Betty) Becker, Iuka; sister-in-law Dorothy Becker, Livermore, Calif.

Funeral will be Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson, with Rev. Roger Gausman presiding. Friends may greet the family following the funeral service. Burial will be Monday, March 1, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Friends may call 5 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. to service time on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County or Countryside Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
