Harold R. Reed, 95, died Aug. 8, 2007, at Hospice House.
He was born Nov. 20, 1911, in Plevna, the son of Commodore A. and Susie Caldwell Reed. He graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended Hutchinson Junior College. A lifetime resident of Hutchinson, he worked for Santa Fe Railroad from 1941 to 1974, retiring as a switchman and yardmaster.
He belonged to Forest Park Presbyterian Church, and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
On April 8, 1939, he married Marjorie A. Loder in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, John R., and wife, Janet, Naperville, Ill.; a daughter, Alice Jane Hayes, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Darin Hayes, Wichita, Devon Hayes, Hutchinson, Jeremy Reed, Louisville, Ky., and Ehren Reed, San Francisco; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jay Dee Hayes; two brothers, Donald and John Lee Reed; and a sister, Genevieve Thompson.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Park Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Robert L. Albin presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.
