Obituary

Harriet H. Cushing, 87, died March 29, 2009, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.

She was born March 15, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Daniel S. and Juliet Webster Helmick.

She graduated in 1940, from Washburn High School, Minneapolis, Minn., and in 1944, from the University of Minnesota. She was a homemaker.

She belonged to Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, Kappa Alpha Theta, Daughters of American Revolution, American Genealogical Society, and the Salt City Miniatures.

On Aug. 19, 1944, she married Hopkins C. Cushing in Minneapolis, Minn. He died May 30, 2007. Survivors include: a son, Stephen, McAlister, Okla.; two daughters, Beth Russell and husband Richard, Hutchinson, and Julie Hawkins and husband Tom, Carmel, Ind.; five grandchildren, Erin German and husband Kevin, Glen Ellyn, Ill., Sarah Russell, Chicago, Ill., David Hawkins, Austin, Texas, Christine Hawkins, London, England, and Lauren Cushing, Denver, Colo.; a sister, Mary Robinson, Minneapolis, Minn.; three great-grandchildren, Cameron and Claire Cravey, and Lucas German.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, with Rev. Michael P. Milliken presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Hutchinson Public Library, Alzheimer's Association, or the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers, all in care of the funeral home.
