Obituary

Harriet L. Jones, 89, died June 18, 2009, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

She was born October 25, 1919, in Hope, Ks, the daughter of Charles Oliver and Lettie Elizabeth Silvius Kauffman.

She was a graduate of Abilene High School, Abilene, and attended Emporia State Teacher's College, Emporia. A Hutchinson resident since 1947, she was a cook for U.S.D. 308, retiring after 20-plus years.

She belonged to the Community Church of The Brethren, where she was very active. Harriet was also active in the Mothers of Twins organization.

On February 12, 1944, she married Gilbert M. Jones Jr. in Chapman. He died August 27, 1992.

Survivors include: four sons, Charles and wife Linda, Mocksville, N.C., Stephen and wife Nancy, York, PA., Daniel and wife Kathy, and Donald and wife Cheryl, all of Hutchinson; a brother, Philip Kauffman and wife Marilyn, Hutchinson; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margaret Kauffman, Verla Krause, an infant Charlene Kauffman; and an infant grandson, Kevin.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Community Church of the Brethren, Hutchinson, with Marlo Oltmann and Ed Switzer presiding. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday June 23, 2009, in Navarre Cemetery, Navarre, Ks. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with the family to receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
