Harvey Benjamin "Harv" Gehring, 81, died Oct. 3, 2014, at his home in South Hutchinson. He was born Aug. 9, 1933, in rural Moundridge to Emil J.C. and Goldie (Schwartz) Gehring. He was a 1951 graduate of Moundridge High School and a member of the First Mennonite Church of Hutchinson. He worked as a fabricator at Detroiter Mobile Homes for six years, a machinist at Cessna/Eaton Corp. for 30-plus years and as a part-time farmer. After retirement, he volunteered his time with Interfaith Housing and served on several boards at First Mennonite Church.
On Sept. 23, 1956, he married Gloria Ann Graber at Eden Mennonite Church in rural Moundridge. She survives.
Other survivors include: children, Russell Gehring, Cynthia Gehring and Rex Gehring, all of Hutchinson; granddaughter, Lindsey Avery of Hutchinson; step-grandchildren, Donald Fager Jr., Drew Fager and wife Jenna, and Stephanie Pohlman and husband Michael, all of Hutchinson; brothers, Marvin Gehring and wife Carolyn, of Whitewater, Jacob Gehring, of Buhler, and Wayne Gehring and wife Norma, of Halstead; sister, Twilla Stucky, of Moundridge; sister-in-law, Lenora Gehring, of Moundridge; former son-in-law, Randy Avery; and former daughter-in-law, Karen Gehring, both of Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Willard Gehring; brother-in-law, James Stucky; and sisters-in-law, Emma Gehring and Karen Gehring.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at the First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Road, Hutchinson, with pastors Tonya Ramer Wenger and Nathan Koontz presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the First Mennonite Church. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
