Harvey L. Reed, 91, died Jan. 18, 2011, at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson.
He was born Oct. 15, 1919, in rural Nickerson, the son of Harry and Tina Downs Reed.
He was a 1939 graduate of Partridge High School, a lifetime Reno County resident, a farmer, a Merchant Marine and Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater and with the 350th Infantry Regiment 88th Division, Canale, Italy, and retired from Cessna Aircraft Company in April 1986, after 25 years of service.
On July 16, 1952, he married Glenda Roberts Hoefer in Hutchinson. She died April 23, 1978.
Other survivors and spouses include: two sons, Larry and Bev Reed of Fishers, Ind., Tom Reed and Carol Oringderff of Hutchinson; a step-daughter, Karen and Dennis Rice of Nickerson; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elza, and four sisters, Ruby Showalter, Lettie Newman, Mabel Besemann and Bessie Burling.
A private graveside service will be held at Penwell-Gable Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Jimie-Wray Mead officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson. Casket will remain closed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
