Hazel Louise King, 74, died January 9, 2024, with her two sons by her side, at Diversicare of Hutchinson.  She was born December 25, 1949, in Pratt, to Robert Lee and Elizabeth Ann (Connley) Barnes.

Hazel graduated from Pratt High School in 1969, and Dodge City Community College in 1974.  She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for the Pratt Regional Medical Center.  Hazel was of the Christian faith.

She married  Ronald Dean Newby.  He died April 4, 1969.  Hazel then married Edwin Evan King March 1, 1987, in Turon.  He died September 21, 2005.

Hazel is survived by:  sons, Ronald Newby and Roger Newby (Yvette), all of Hutchinson; brothers, Robert Barnes of Belton, MO, LeRoy Newby, Gerald Newby, Larry Newby, and David Barnes, all of Pratt.

She was preceded in death by: her son, Shawn Millington; her mother-in-law, Mary Alice Newby; father and stepmother, Robert and Marcia Barnes; birth mother, Elizabeth Connley; grandmother, Alice Barnes; brothers, Raymond and Michael Barnes; and a sister, Cynthia Gillis.

Private family inurnment will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.  Cremation has taken place.  Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS is in charge of arrangements.
