SOUTH HUTCHINSON - H. Joan Crisafi died Jan. 9, 2010, at Mennonite Manor. She was born Aug. 25, 1932, on the family farm in western Reno County to Harold John and Lillian Naomi Lenz Brosius. A longtime resident of Plevna, she lived in Dodge City, Stafford and Lyons, before retiring in Hutchinson.
She graduated from Plevna High School in 1950, then received her degree in cosmetology in 1966. She was a MHMR aide at the State School for the Retarded in Abilene, Texas. She was a nurse's aide in hospital, nursing home and private home care. She traveled throughout the United States for eighteen years working as a concessionaire.
On Dec. 14, 1950, she married Dwight Zongker. On March 12, 1968, she married Frank Crisafi. She was of the Catholic faith since the 1960s.
She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Stafford. She was a past Noble Grand of the former Olive Branch Rebekah Lodge No. 66 of Stafford, and a present member of the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge No. 28 of Hutchinson. She was a member of the Red Hat Razzle Dazzlers of Mennonite Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include: a son, Philip Zongker and wife Jane, South Hutchinson; two daughters, Patricia Green and husband Rick, Graham, Wash., and Mary Spear and husband Edward, McPherson; three brothers, Thomas Brosius, Hutchinson, John Brosius, Galena Park, Texas, and William Brosius, Anniston, Ala.; four sisters, Shirley Andsager and Joyce Nusser, both of Hutchinson, Virginia Lail, Chesapeake, Va., and Jeanne Brosius-Smith, Tulsa, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Mennonite Manor Chapel, South Hutchinson, with Pastor Todd Schlosser and Father Brian Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mennonite Manor Chapel. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas or Mennonite Manor, both in care of the mortuary.
