Helen L. Goble, 94, formerly of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at her daughter's home in Eudora, Kansas. She was born July 8, 1923, in Hutchinson, to John S. and Bessie Ellen (Jones) Armstrong. Helen graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1941. She was baptized at South Hutchinson Christian Church. Helen was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Helen was a unique individual, who inspired her children to follow their hearts. She was 'one smart cookie', with a sense of humor and love for games. She was an also an avid fan of KU, Kansas State, and Royals baseball. Her pastimes included playing cards, word games, puzzles, and studying the dictionary. A truly good person, she was blessed with a sweet disposition and strongly held values. Her love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren was unconditional, and she was very proud of all of them. She will be missed by all, and in our hearts forever.
On February 24, 1943, she married James Arthur Goble in Hutchinson. He died January 4, 1998.
Helen is survived by: daughters, Linda O'Neal of Eudora, Marsha Emig (Dave) of Emporia; son, James Goble Jr. (Dana) of Lawrence; former son-in-law, Bud Montford of Blackwell, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Jan Montford; son-in-law, Butch O'Neal; sisters, May Ryan, Ruby Lambert, Ruth Schewe; and brother, John Armstrong Jr.
Graveside service will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Mitchell Cemetery, West 56th and Pennington Road, Hutchinson, with Pastor Howard Wagler officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, prior to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mitchell Cemetery Care Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
