Obituary

ARLINGTON - Helen L. Hobbs, 92, died April 2, 2006, at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson.

She was born May 14, 1913, the second daughter of Oscar W. and Mabel Brooks Dilliard. The family lived two and a half miles east of Langdon. Being raised in the Langdon area, she lived in Arlington from 1935 until moving to Mennonite Manor in South Hutchinson in February 2002. She graduated from Langdon High School, Hutchinson Jr. College, Emporia State University and earned an additional 30 hours in travel credits. She taught school at the Arlington Grade School for 40 years, spending nine years with the fifth and sixth grades and 31 years teaching the second grade. She retired in 1979.

She belonged to Arlington United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a member of Hutchinson Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Western Reno Teachers Association, National Education Association, and was involved in several other Arlington Community organizations.

On April 21, 1935, she married Pearl "P.A." Hobbs in Langdon. He died Aug. 16, 1985.

Survivors include: a sister, Agnes Moore of Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Cartwright, Arlington, and Leona Dillard, Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Emil Dillard, in 1992.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Arlington United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Dennis Wallace and John Wright presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Langdon Cemetery.
