Helen L. Lyman Lewis was born Feb. 21, 1923, in Hutchinson and died at her home in Carmichael, Calif., on May 11, 2013, at the age of 90.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, William Selby; parents, Chester E. and Amanda E. Lyman; brothers, Burton, Warren, Chester; and sisters, Dorothy and Virginia. Helen is survived by her brother, Floyd of Hutchinson; son, Greg Lewis; daughter, Cynthia Lewis; and loving grandson, Aaron Freedom.
Helen was born and raised in Hutchinson and attended Hutchinson Community College. Helen was a Navy wife for many years, and had the opportunity to travel and live in various locations throughout the United States, finally settling in Carmichael, Calif., to raise a family. Helen was a devoted, patient, and loving mother to her developmentally challenged son, and daughter. She enjoyed golf, bridge, entertaining, and spending time outdoors in her beautiful rose garden. Helen will be remembered as being kind to others, a loyal friend, devoted wife, and loving mother. She enjoyed volunteering to help children learn to read; and was an active member, for many years, in the Sacramento Children's Home Auxiliary and other philanthropy groups.
