Helen Maxine Schul, 92, died April 30, 2013, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. She was born May 15, 1920, in Craig County, OK, to Harry Allen and Julia Wilkens Armstrong. After she graduated from high school, Helen moved to Galveston for a few years then later moved to Wichita. On June 29, 1946, she married John Schul. Later, Helen modeled for several department stores including Bucks, Innes and Wolf Bros. In 1967, the family moved to Hutchinson. John Schul died July 26, 1984.
Helen was on the board of directors of Underground Vaults and Storage, the board of Mother to Mother ministries, a volunteer at Hutchinson Hospital, and a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. She was also a member of the former Northminster Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: daughter, Marty M. Lee and husband Mike, Inman, KS; grandchildren, Brecken Morel and husband Gavin, Stanford, Conn., and Jonathon Lee, Manhattan, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Howard, Leonard, and Leo Armstrong.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Skip Johnson presiding. Friends may sign the book Sunday thru Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
