Helen Maureen Stapleton, died Sept. 13, 2016, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. She was born Dec. 31, 1927, in Kiowa County, to Leora Ernest and Calfania Maud (Coates) Algrim.
She was raised by her father and stepmother, Ruth. Helen was a bank teller, secretary for the Dodge City school system, and for over 19 years, a greeter for Conklin Cars, Hutchinson. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She attended Montezuma High School, graduating in 1944, and Salt City Business College.
On June 17, 1960, Helen married Stephen Michael Stapleton in Hutchinson. He died Aug. 28, 2013. Survivors include: children, Michael Stapleton and wife Wendy of Grass Lake, Mich., and Julieanne Stapleton Eckles of Olathe; grandchildren, Jack, and Ashley Stapleton of Grass Lake, Mich., Alexandra, and Dane Eckles of Olathe; brother, Gene Algrim and wife Sue of Hutchinson; sisters, Harriett Krey and husband Don of Rolla, Kay Schmidt of Olympia, Wash., and Arlene Thiessen and husband Harold of Inman. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Ruth Alrgrim; and twin sisters, Velma and Wilma Algrim.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery presiding. Private family inurnment will be Monday in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
