Helen Watson, 89, passed away Dec. 13, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House. She was born Feb. 16, 1921, at Winfield. She was raised in Mulvane and lived in Hutchinson for more than 50 years before moving to Overland Park in 2005.
She was a 1939 graduate of Mulvane High School and a 1943 graduate of Kansas State University, taught high school mathematics and helped manage Gene Watson Land and Livestock Company. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, an avid golfer and bowler, great cook, hostess and friend to all. She lived to help and serve people.
On Dec. 23, 1945, she married L.E. "Gene" Watson at Mulvane. He died Oct. 16, 1989. Other survivors include: a daughter, Marty and husband Tom Eddy of Overland Park; a son, Don Watson and Sherry Spitsnaugle of Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Margaret Larsen of Overland Park; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Her register book will be available 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
