Henry J. "Hank" Dumas, 85, of Hutchinson, died January 20, 2012, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
He was born November 9, 1926, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the son of Joseph Y. and Roseanna Theroux Dumas.
He attended school and graduated from high school in Pawtucket in 1944. He joined the U.S. Navy right out of school and served for 20 years. He was a frogman in the Navy. After his Navy career, he taught hydraulic mechanics at Los Angeles City College in California. He moved to Hutchinson in 1984. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Doers Sunday School class at the church, and the Hutchinson-Reno County Masonic Lodge #124 A.F.&A.M. He also volunteered at the Red Cross, was a volunteer for the Sheriff's Patrol, the Hutchinson Regio nal Medical Center, and volunteered giving tours at the Cosmosphere.
Hank married Glenda West on June 3, 1967, at Las Vegas, Nevada. She died April 22, 2001. Hank later married Ellie Baar on April 3, 2003, in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: stepson, Dr. Steve Baar and his wife Cherie, Turon; a brother, Robert A. Dumas, Pawtucket, RI; two step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ted Dumas.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell and the Rev. Jim Rhaesa presiding. Visitation will be Saturday 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park. Graveside services will be provided by Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F.&A.M. and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
