OVERLAND PARK - Herb "Herbo" Freidenberger, 92, formerly of Hutchinson, Kan., and Dunedin, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, in Overland Park, Kan. He was born on July 3, 1919, in Otis, Kan., the son of Sophie (Kindsvater) and George Freidenberger.
Herb retired in 1981, after a 43-year career from the Dillon Companies. He married Marguerite Mendenhall June 18, 1939, in Hutchinson. She died Feb. 19, 2005. He and his wife were longtime members of the Emanuel Lutheran Church and Herb was instrumental in the construction of the current church on East 30th Street, which was built in 1963. After retiring to Florida, Herb attended Clown School and dedicated the next 25 years to making people laugh and smile as "Herbo" the Clown.
Survivors include: three daughters, Dee Ann (Jack) Sheldon of Holton, Kan., Suzanne Paschall of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Melinda (Tom) Cook of Overland Park, Kan.; son, Ron (Sheila) Freidenberger of Rogers, Ark.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great great-grandchild; two brothers, Alex (Alberta) and Richard (Aleda) Freidenberger; two sisters, Helen Lorenz and Ruth (Marion) Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marguerite, in Feb. of 2005; son, Danny, in Jan. of 1968; brother, George; and three sisters, Esther, Elma and Alice.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, in Overland Park. A memorial service for Herb will be held on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 140 E. 30th, Hutchinson, Kan., with Pastor Phil Vickers officiating.
