Obituary

Hilda Wiens, 94 died March 6, 2011, at Hester Care, Wesley Towers.

She was born July 13, 1916, in Inman, the daughter of Martin and Agnes Vogt Wiens.

She was a member of First Mennonite Church, Hutchinson, a 1935 graduate of Inman High School and a 1968 graduate of Sterling College. She taught school at South Inman, a two-room schoolhouse and Inman Grade School. She later taught at Faris Grade School, Hutchinson, retiring in 1983. Hilda belonged to the Retired Teacher Association, KNEA, volunteered at the Cosmosphere, Meals on Wheels, Community Concert and was an avid blood donor for the American Red Cross.

On June 12, 1946, she married Albert "Bert" Wiens in Inman, Kan. He died Sept. 22, 1965. Survivors include: daughters, Kathleen Deppner and husband Fred of Andover, Kan., Patte B. Tweito and husband David of Hutchinson, Kan., and Karen Dreier and husband Ted of Franklin, Tenn.; son, Gerald Wiens and wife Carlene of Nickerson, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Grace Flickinger of Inman, Kan. She was preceded in death by a son, Bradley Wiens; grandson, Brian Wiens; great-granddaughter, Grace Ann Dreier; sister, Kathrien Wedel; and a brother, Ervin Wiens.

Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, at First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Road, Hutchinson, with Pastors Tonya Ramer Wenger and Miles Reimer presiding. There will be a private family burial at Buhler Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011, at First Mennonite Church, Hutchinson.

Memorial contributions are made to Central Asia Institute Education fund for girls in the Middle East founded by Greg Mortenson, author of "Three Cups of Tea," in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
