SALINA - Hillis Mark "Beinie" Beineke, 92, died Sept. 5, 2007.
Mr. Beineke was born Aug. 26, 1915, in Salina to Lorenz John and Agnes Katherine Reed Beineke. He was a printer and a newspaper editor. Mr. Beineke was a 1934 graduate of Hutchinson High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in Okinawa in World War II. He was a staff member of Stars and Stripes and the The Daily Okinawan. He and his wife were owners and publishers of the Nickerson Argosy for 27 years, and then operated the Printcrafters job shop until retirement.
He was a member of Nickerson Chamber of Commerce, Nickerson United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, a charter member of the Nickerson Lions Club, Elmdale Pioneer Center, and the Moose Lodge of Hutchinson. He enjoyed fishing, playing bridge, square dancing, the "Kitchen Band," and enjoying life with his best friend and wife of nearly 70 years.
He married Victoria "Vicki" Anderson on Sept. 24, 1937, in Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jan Hilbers; and a brother, Glenn.
Survivors include: his wife, Vicki, Salina; daughter, Kay Engelland and husband, Glenn, Salina; two sons, Jerry, Fenton, Mo., and Randy, Fort Lupton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sept. 22, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Salina or the Nickerson United Methodist Church, both in care of Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
