Obituary

Homer Dean Groves, 76, died Dec. 5, 2005, at Hospice House of Hutchinson.

He was born Dec. 22, 1928, in Salina, the son of Roy Pearl and Lula Mae Skinner Groves. He was a graduate of Hutchinson High School. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he was an IBEW electrician for 50 years, serving as business manager for 16 and a half of those years. He then was a U.S. Government OSHA compliance officer until retiring at the age of 65 in 1994.

He belonged to Faith United Methodist Church, IBEW Local No. 661, Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge No. 124 AF & AM and American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

On July 4, 1947, he married Nancy Lois King in Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Michael Groves and wife, Sandra, Hutchinson; two daughters, Pam Bisby and husband, Dennis, Warsaw, Mo., Debbie Amrine and husband, Carl, Wichita; two sisters, Sarah Weaver, California, and Sharon Carter, Texas; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Bill and Bob Wallace, Roy, Glenn, and Kenneth and Raymond Groves; and two sisters, Edna Goertzen and Irene Helsel.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Brent Clayton presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with Masonic rites conducted by Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge No. 124 AF & AM.
