Homer Warren Hankey, 94, died April 22, 2011, at Golden Plains Health Care Center, Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Amorita, Oklahoma, the son of John E. and Edna Thompson Hankey. A World War II veteran, he served as a sergeant with the Army Air Corp. He retired from Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company and Stevens County John Deere. Homer was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hugoton and a lifetime member of the Hugoton V.F.W.
On April 14, 1946, he married Marjorie Evelyn Durham in Manhattan. She died Aug. 9, 2005. Survivors include: a daughter, Gwen Tholkes and husband A.J., Centennial, Colo.; a sister, Dulcie Burhem and husband Lawrence, Brenham, Texas; two grandsons, Stephen Tholkes and wife Kathleen, Kansas City, Kan., and Shane Tholkes, Littleton, Colo.; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 am. Monday, April 25, 2011, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Willis Hankey presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family to receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Neola Cemetery, with military graveside honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Neola Cemetery, Hugoton Senior Citizens or Hospice of Reno County, in care of the mortuary.
