Hopkins C. "Hop" Cushing, 84, died May 30, 2007, at his home, Hutchinson.
He was born Jan. 8, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Frank and Marian Springer Cushing Sr. He graduated from Minneapolis West High School in 1940, and from the University of Minnesota in 1944. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he was a retired grain broker with the Hutchinson Board of Trade.
He belonged to Grace Episcopal Church, Delta Kappa Epsilon faternity and Ducks Unlimited. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Aug. 19, 1944, he married Harriet Helmick in Minneapolis. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Steve, McAlester, Okla.; two daughters, Julie Hawkins and husband, Tom, Dallas, and Beth Russell and husband, Richard, Hutchinson; and grandchildren, Ernin German and Sarah Russell, both of Chicago, David Hawkins, Austin, Texas, Christine Hawkins, New York, and Lauren Cushing, Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Frank Cushing Jr.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church. Private family graveside services will be held. Cremation will take place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas or the First Responders of Long Lake, Sarona, Wis., both in care of the funeral home.
