Obituary

Howard C. Lemen, 87, died Aug. 12, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born July 27, 1919, in Hutchinson, the son of John Henry and Blanche Cora Owston Lemen. A lifetime resident of Hutchinson, he was a self-employed painter, later working for USD 308. He retired in 1984.

He belonged to the Friends Church, Independent Order of Odd Fellows Reno Lodge No. 99 and Myrtle Rebekah Lodge No. 28. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1939 to 1945 with the 194th QM Gas Supply Company. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.

On May 1, 1948, he married Juanita Emery in Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Clifford, and Mike and wife, Bridget, all of Wichita, David E., Haven, and Greg and wife, Barbara, Halstead; a brother, Paul, Wichita; five grandchildren, Denise Blevins, Jacob Lemen, Molley Taylor, Melissa Lemen and David L. Lemen; and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Harold; and a sister, Doris Shackelford.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Gary D. Getting presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with military graveside honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
