Howard Dean Stucky, 78, a former resident of Penalosa and Hutchinson, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 4, 2009, in Fort Scott, Kansas.
He was born February 12, 1931, in Pretty Prairie, Kansas, the youngest son of Amos and Ida Graber Stucky. He attended school in Penalosa, Cunningham, and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1949.
He served his country in the U.S. Army, and later married Evelyn Spain of Kingman, Kansas, on May 25, 1956. He and his wife farmed near Penalosa until 1985, when they moved to Hutchinson and opened Stucky Sharpening and Lawnmower Service.
He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Hutchinson. Music was a big part of Howard's life. He sang in the church choir and together with his family performed four part a-cappella music concerts at various area churches for a number of years.
Survivors include: his wife Evelyn; two sons, Bryan Stucky and wife Kathie, and their children, Kaitlyn and Cameron, Argonia, Kansas, and Mahlon Stucky and wife Jamie, and their children, Laura and Grant, Fort Scott, Kansas; two daughters, Darla Fieker and husband Jerry, and their children Lydia, Buddy, D.J. and Amber, Springfield, Missouri, and Brenda Depew and husband Dave, and their children, Jessica, Trevor and Alisha, Buhler, Kansas; and a brother, Gene Stucky and wife Joan of Highland, California; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Matthew Stucky.
The Rev. Mahlon Stucky and the Rev. Tim Adrian will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at Westside Baptist Church, 400 West 12th Street in Hutchinson, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, September 8, 2009, at Westside Baptist Church Auditorium. A private burial service is planned at the Lerado Cemetery.
