Obituary

WINDOM – Ila Jean Briggs, 84, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Heartland Haven. She was born April 29, 1930, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Floyd and Blanche VanSickle Kelley.

She was a 1948 graduate of Hutchinson High School and attended Hutchinson Community College, was a piano and Sunday school teacher, a member of Andover Lutheran Church, WELCA and had been the church organist for almost 50 years. Ila was a farmer's wife and homemaker. On Sept. 9, 1950, she married Kenneth L. Briggs in Hutchinson. He died April 23, 2000. She is survived by their three daughters and their husbands, Donna and Jerry Shell, Beverly and Royce Janssen, both of Inman, Janet and Tom Stroberg of Hutchinson; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd; her mother, Blanche Cain; and sister, Iris Price.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with family present 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at Andover Lutheran Church, Windom, with Pastor Thomas R. Hallowell presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the church or Heartland Haven, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
