Ila Fern Harbacek, 76, died Nov. 24, 2012, at her home in Hutchinson.
Fern was born July 1, 1936, at Arlington, Kan., the daughter of Jesse Leroy and Wanetta Leone Truster Spence.
She attended school in Arlington. Fern was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson, where she was the supervisor of the nursery since 1992. Prior, she worked 15 years at the Hutchinson Bag Company and had been self employed since 1980. She was an avid bingo player, belonged to the Hutchinson Antique and Collectors Club and was a volunteer at the Hutchinson Public Library.
She married John Harbacek Jr. on Jan. 17, 1955, in Hutchinson. He passed away June 14, 1994.
Survivors include: two brothers, Leroy and Keith Spence, both of Hutchinson; two sisters, Thelma Smith of Los Lunas, New Mexico, and Judy Valkar of Loveland, Colo.; 19 nieces and nephews; and many great and great great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; and three brothers, Archie, Fred and Robert Spence.
Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Reverend Amy Dame officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
