NICKERSON - Ila M. Phillips, 91, died Sept. 21, 2015, at Heartland Haven, rural Inman. She was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Hutchinson, to Clarence and Donna (Sterling) Hodges.
Ila graduated from Hutchinson High School. She was a homemaker, a nanny, and was a Site Manager for Aging Projects. Ila was a member of Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church and was very active in the church. She was an avid Atlanta Braves and basketball fan.
On June 7, 1941, she married Richard "R.W." Phillips in Walton. He died March 23, 2005. She is survived by: son, John W. Phillips of Nickerson; sister, Genie Popp of Haven; seven grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. Ila was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; daughter, Vickie O'Neal; and grandson, Tommy Phillips.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Rebecca Stark officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., at the mortuary.
