Iola Marie Derr, 78, of South Hutchinson, died April 22, 2011, at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson. She was born July 13, 1932, in Lakin, the daughter of James and Helen Conn Swank. Iola was a 1951 graduate of Hutchinson High School and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She had worked for several years as a PBX operator with Southwestern Bell and was a homemaker. She and her husband lived for many years in Atchison. They moved back to Hutchinson in 1992.
On Oct. 13, 1956, she married Donald Dale Derr in Hutchinson. He survives. Other survivors include: a son, Jim Derr and wife Tina; a daughter, Debby McNaughton and husband Steve; a brother, Jim Swank and his wife Karen, all of Hutchinson; four grandchildren, Michael Derr, Anchorage, Alaska, Thomas McCarthy, Hutchinson, Meghan McCarthy, Manhattan, and Colleen McCarthy, Hutchinson; and four great-grandchildren, Aubree, Jasmine, Michael, and Xavier Derr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Donald David Derr, on July 26, 2010.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Visitation will be Monday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family greeting friends 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, all at the mortuary.
