Iola Marie Howe, 100, died Jan. 23, 2010, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 9, 1910, in Concordia, Mo., to Adolf G. and Nona B. Finch Hartwig. She was a 1929 graduate from Vona High School, Vona, Colo.
On Oct. 22, 1929, she married Henry Howe in Burlington, Colo. He died Nov. 3, 1993. Iola and Henry lived in Belpre from 1930 until 1949, when they moved to Hutchinson.
She was a pediatric technician, working at Grace Hospital and the former Hutchinson Hospital, until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School. She belonged to a hospice support group.
Iola loved quilting, ceramics and bingo. She won many state fair ribbons, including two blue ones for crocheting and quilts.
Survivors include: two sons, Doyle F., Arbuckle, Calif., and Robert H. "Bob," Hutchinson; two daughters, Joanne M. Phillips, Palco, KS, and Mary Jane Gividen and husband Scott, Wichita; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jocene Love; brother, Lusture H. Hartwig; and sister, Rena Mae Borders.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at First Southern Baptist Church, with Pastor Ray E. Kempel officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. (MST) Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, in Clairmont Cemetery, Stratton, Colo. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Southern Baptist Church, or Hospice of Reno County, both in care of Elliott Mortuary.
