Obituary

Iona A. Gleason, 75, died Aug. 10, 2008, at Hutchinson Hospital.

She was born May 10, 1933, in Thurston, Neb., the daughter of Herbert and Anna Paulsen Messerschmidt. She graduated from West Fork Arkansas High School in 1950 and then attended Wayne State College, Nebraska, and graduated from Sterling College in 1962. She worked on her post-graduate degree at Washington State University and the University of Arkansas.

A resident of Hutchinson since 1961, moving from Plattsmouth, Neb., she was an elementary school teacher in South Hutchinson.

She belonged to Zion Lutheran Church, was a 50 year member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Education Sorority, served as a lector at the church, and belonged to the Altar Guild of Zion Lutheran Church.

On Aug. 14, 1955, she married G. Dale Gleason in Pender, Neb. He survives. Other survivors include: a son, Scott, Indianapolis; and a sister, Stella Puls, Pender, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 13, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Henry Hartman presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 12, 2008, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be sent to Zion Lutheran Church in care of the mortuary.
