Obituary

Irena Fulton Kuhns, 85, died Sunday, January 12, 2014, at Pleasant View Home in Inman, KS. She was born in Kingman, KS, to Clarence and Esther (Peterson) Fulton on August 27, 1928. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1945, and attended Adela Hale Business College in Hutchinson. She married Robert Laurence Kuhns on May 24, 1946. He died December 18, 2011.

Irena was an avid collector of antiques, specializing in glassware. She was an expert seamstress, altering clothing for residents of Wesley Towers for many years.

Irena was active in the Arlington community, where she lived all of her adult life. She belonged to the Arlington United Methodist Church, where she was secretary for many years. She belonged to the Mayflower Chapter of Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron. She was active in the Arlington ambulance service, as officer and an EMT. She delivered for Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by: her children, Claudia Kuhns, of Denver, CO, Les Kuhns (Jeanette), of Tobyhanna, PA, Elaine Schmidt (Zach), of Hutchinson, KS, and LeAnn Kirkpatrick, of Overland Park, KS; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Maxine Toms.

Following her request, her body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical School for further education.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Arlington United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
