Irene Musselwhite, 86, died March 28, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.
She was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Okmulgee, Okla., the daughter of Herman Bill and Minnie Owen Snider.
She graduated high school in 1940 in Blackwell, Okla., and attended nurses training at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. A longtime resident of Hutchinson, moving to Overland Park in 2001, she was a homemaker and had worked part-time at the former St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Hutchinson.
She belonged to Northminster Presbyterian Church and the Esther Circle, both at Hutchinson, and attended Overland Park Presbyterian Church. She volunteered at Hutchinson Hospital, Hospice of Reno County, RSVP of Reno County, was an ambassador at Overland Park Place and a member of the traveling choir at Overland Park Place. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary Lyle Rishel Post No. 68.
On March 19, 1943, she married Bernard Albert Musselwhite in Wichita. He died June 4, 1994.
Survivors include: a son, Bernard A. and wife Glennice, McPherson; daughter, Patricia I. Schroeder, Prairie Village; grandchildren, Monica Spencer, Galva, Tad Musselwhite and wife Tracy, Salina, Tricia Young and husband Christopher, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Tasha Schroeder and partner Angela Eichler, Stevens Point, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Riley and Alexandria Nigh, Galva, and Paige Musselwhite, Salina; brothers, Bob Snider, Texas, Lloyd Snider, Tulsa, and Phillip Snider, Locust Grove, Okla.; and sisters, Mari O'Neill, Wichita, and Betty Smith, Blackwell, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Billy Snider.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Northminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Skip Johnson presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
