Obituary

NICKERSON - J. Obie Griffith, 93, died June 6, 2012. He was born Jan. 25, 1919, in Linn County, Kan., the son of William V. and Eva King Griffith.

He was a member of Nickerson United Methodist Church, Nickerson Masonic Lodge #43, Wichita Consistory and the Order of Eastern Star, Silver Leaf Chaper #464. Obie was a retired farmer and stockman.

On March 24, 1940, he married Cleo Marie Hauschild in Nickerson. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons and their spouses, John and Sue of Hutchinson and Larry and Judy of Nickerson; four sisters, Virginia Haulman of Sterling, Letha Corfman of El Dorado, Wilma Bloom of Medicine Lodge, and Barbara Warner of Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Teresa (Keith Gooch) of Kansas City, Mo., Troy (Kim) Griffith of Great Bend, Jeff Griffith of Nickerson, Brad (Kim) Griffith of Hutchinson, and Karie (Lance Ohnmacht) of Sterling; seven great-grandchildren, Kaily, Conner and Braden, Blake, Lucas and Garrett Griffith, and Jaycie Ohnmacht. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and a sister, Thelma Renzel.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2012, at Elliott Chapel with Reverend Jennifer Whitt officiating. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Masonic Rites conducted by Hutchinson Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A. M. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Reno County or to the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
