On Thursday, February 9, 2006, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend Jack H. Andrews ended his suffering and went to eternal rest.
Jack was born in Denton County, Texas, April 24, 1922, the son of Robert Franklin and Zula Roxanna Key Andrews. At the age of seven he moved to Hutchinson with the family. Although he lived all of his adult life in Kansas, he always considered himself a Texan. He attended Hutchinson Public Schools and graduated from high school in Green Castle, Indiana. After returning from military service he attended Salt City Business College. From November 7, 1945, to January 23, 1947, he served with the Army Air Force as a flight engineer in Korea and Japan. After the end of World War II he returned to work at Western Foods Product Company in Hutchinson. For many years he served as the dock foreman, influencing the lives of many young men over the years. After the closing of Western Foods he worked for Betts Bakery, Nickerson Co-op and Ashcraft Pharmacy.
Jack and his family were active in the Hutchinson Saddle Club and the Double Trouble Club for parents of twins. He was an adult sponsor for the Itch-E-Bonns Rod and Custom Club. He was a member of Hadley Memorial Methodist Church.
On March 24, 1941, he married Layna Mae Kelly at McPherson, Ks. This union of nearly 65 years was blessed with the four "Andrew Sisters," Carol Jean Partridge and husband Jim, Nickerson, Jacqulyn Sue Ashcraft and husband Stephen, Hutchinson, Jenni Kay Ankerholz and husband Kenny, Inman, and Denny Fay Kellogg and husband Steve, Divide, Co. Other survivors include a brother, Robert F. "Frank" of Rockport, Texas, and a sister, Key Nelson and husband Bill of Gering, Neb., grandchildren, Shelby Lynn Nuss and husband Cary, Nickerson, Jack Dean Stanfield, Sr., and wife Rose, Stephen William Ashcraft and wife Ali, Hutchinson, Lisa Benton, Macaria Clouse and husband Donnie, Medora, John William Kellogg and wife Angela Greeley, Colo., Lana England and husband Tim, Hutchinson, Kristina Marie Rohman and husband John, Divide, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Jack Dean Stanfield, Jr., John Wesley Stanfield, Erin Nicole Nuss, Destinee Raeann Stucky, Kyleigh Marie Clouse, Chandler Elizabeth and Lexee Addison Ashcraft, Triniti Juliet, Neveah Avril, and Zayin Josiah Rohman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Clova Gruver Stout and Mary Lemen.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Merle "Bones" Nay presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friend from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, with military graveside rites conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard.
