Jack E. Hornbeck, 91, died Nov. 21, 2012, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Chanute, Kan., the son of George and Jane (Hamill) Hornbeck.
He was a WWII veteran serving as a staff sergeant with the United States Army from 1942-45. Jack worked in the oil fields for several years and then for Cessna as a 2nd shift crew leader in the tool and die section, retiring after 26 years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361 and the Polar Bear Association of WWII. Jack was a fun loving, hard working man that was devoted to his family.
On Feb. 3, 1943, he married Frances C. Feyerabend in Hattiesburg, Miss. She died May 3, 1999. Survivors include: a daughter, Nancy Wood and husband Tom of Wichita; three brothers, Robert Hornbeck, Wayne Hornbeck, and Gary Hornbeck, all of Hutchinson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers, Carl, Ray, Oscar and Jim Hornbeck; and five sisters, Roberta King, Helen Frank, Marge Banworth, MaryJane Barkley, and Betty Blanchard.
Memorial graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Reverend R. Samuel Askew officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today through Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County or Cause for Paws, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N.
