Jack Lavern Rosson, of Hutchinson, Kansas, died Thursday, September 24, surrounded by his wife and family. He was born December 28, 1939, in Cherryvale, Kansas, to Myrtle Marie Rosson and Herman Earston Rosson.

Throughout his life, Jack dedicated himself to his family, his work, and the communities he served. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class and later served on the police force in Wichita, Kansas. His career in public service continued in Oklahoma, where he served as city manager and mayor of Kaw City and later as city manager of Perkins.

Jack was the devoted husband of Joyce Rosson and father to four children: Curt (Missy), Peg, Mark (Kathy), and Michelle (Jennifer). He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, Morgan, Britt, Braden, Jaden, Grant, and Garret, and a great-grandfather to one great-grandchild.

Outside of his professional life, Jack was happiest outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and farming and had a lifelong love of horses and mules. He took great pleasure in riding them, caring for them, and spending time working with them.

More than anything, Jack treasured being Joyce’s husband and being a grandfather. His family was an important part of his life, and the time he spent with them meant more to him than any title he ever held.

Jack lived with a deep appreciation for hard work, open country, good animals, and a life lived simply and well. He leaves behind the kind of legacy built not only through what he accomplished, but through the family he loved, the communities he served, and the life he made his own.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2026, at Elliott Chapel. The casket will remain closed.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
