Obituary

Jack D. Showalter, 80, of Hutchinson, died Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.  He was born September 26, 1939, in Hutchinson, to Preston Victor and Eatta Mae (Johnson) Showalter.

Jack worked for the City of Hutchinson Park Department and retired after 27 years of mowing and maintaining the city owned parks.  He was a volunteer for the Hutchinson Police Department and the Reno County Sheriff's Office, performing various jobs and tasks for over 15 years.  Jack also worked at the Kansas State Fair.  He worked many jobs, but his most rewarding job was being a grandfather and great-grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jack married Andella Ivah Shultz and they had three children, Dean, Daryl and Laura.  They later divorced.  On March 15, 1989, he married Marcella 'Marcy' Pruitt in Hutchinson.  She died September 16, 2019.

Jack is survived by:  sons, Dean and Daryl (Raeanna) Showalter, all of Hutchinson; daughter, Laura (John) Colster, Warrensburg, MO; stepchildren, Debra (David) Hindle, Brenda (Mon) Nakano, Peggy (Terry) Ayres, Diane (Brad) Gilbert, Lisa Green, and Mark (Amanda) Pruitt; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Earl Showalter.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; wife, Marcella 'Marcy' Showalter; and sister, Ella Mae (Johnson) Johannsen.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 21, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Cindy Dubovich officiating.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Elliott Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hutchinson Police Volunteer Program, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
