Jacob T. "Jake" Boese, 96, died Dec. 5, 2008, at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
He was born Feb. 29, 1912, in McPherson County, the son of Tobias and Carrie Buller Boese.
He attended Prairie View School, McPherson County, and continued his education at Salt City Business College, Hutchinson. A resident of Hutchinson since 1941, he was a farmer in Colorado, and then worked at Morton Salt Company for 35 years, retiring in 1976.
He was a life member of the Dodge City V.F.W. Post No. 1714. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.
On Sept. 26, 1936, he married Alma Nightengale in Syracuse. She died Nov. 5, 1992. Survivors include: two daughters, Bonnie Benscheidt and husband, Charlie, Hutchinson, and Linda Booth and husband Rusty, Eureka; a brother, Sam, Dodge City; a sister, Marie Schmidt, Goltry, Okla.; four grandchildren, Gary Lohrey, Terry Lohrey and wife, Pam, Brandon Blocker, and Stacy Helten and husband Matt; six great-grandchildren, Jessie and Darrin Lohrey, Kristina and Jennifer Lohrey, Charissa and Wyatt Helten; and his girlfriend of 15 years, Lena Williams, McPherson.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Henry, John, and Art Boese, and two sisters, Esther Jantz, and Elma Schmidt.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Dusty Cowell presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 8p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Halstead Cemetery.
