Jacob B. "Jake" Miller Jr., 93, of Moore, Okla., died Sept. 11, 2011, at his daughter's home in Moore, Okla. He was born Aug. 27, 1918, in El Dorado, Kan., the son of Jacob B. and Bertha M. Hollenbeck Miller.
He was a longtime Hutchinson resident, moving to Moore in 2006. He was a 1937 graduate of Nickerson High School and a retired conductor with Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hutchinson and Mesa, Ariz., Hutchinson Moose Lodge #982, Geneseo, Kansas Masonic Lodge; he was a Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite and a member of the United Transportation Union.
On May 19, 1939, he married Lois M. Magoffin in Sterling, Kan. She died July 8, 2003. Survivors include: son, James D. and Carolyn Miller of Denton, Texas; daughter, Lynn Miller-Walters and significant other Donny Vennochi of Moore, Okla.; five grandchildren and spouses, Shane and Debbie Miller, Shannon and Clint Hicks, Jason and Michelle Harrell, Jeremy and Jodi Harrell, and Jarvis and Jessie Walters; eight great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jessamy Harrell, Hutchinson and Cody Miller, Clayton and Caroline Hicks, Abigail and McKayla Harrell; and sister-in-law, Doris Foster of Hutchinson.
Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Sterling Community Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Conard officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Faith Hospice of Norman, Okla., in care of the mortuary.
