Obituary

Jamea  Renee' Gibbs, 14, of Hutchinson, died February 26, 2021, at her home. She was born December 22, 2006, in Hutchinson and was the daughter of Randy Gibbs and Kristin (Wait) Reyes.

At the age of 10, Jamea was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease, Sanfilippo Syndrome (MPS IIIA). Often referred to as youth's Alzheimers, this is a terminal syndrome that caused a regression in her developmental and behavioral abilities.

Jamea loved to be outside. She enjoyed spending time with her horses and dogs, especially Turbo. Jamea loved music and it provided a lot of comfort and enjoyment during her time in the hospital. Her brothers were another special source of comfort and entertainment to her. Jamea's other interests included her baby dolls and watching shows such as, Dora the Explorer, Mickey Mouse, and Trolls. She attended Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church and Salt City Cowboy Church with her parents and grandparents.

Jamea is survived by: father and stepmother, Randy and Allicia Gibbs; mother and stepfather, Kristin and Michael Reyes; brothers, Jaccob Gibbs, Mason Wilson, and Ryker Reyes; stepsiblings, Ethan, Collin and Nevaeh Reyes; grandparents, Max and DiAnn Bussard; grandparents, Charles and Sharon Murphy, all of Hutchinson; step grandparents, Paula and Ronnie Rubio of California; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Kayla, and grandfather, Robert Wait.

Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church, with Reverend Jeff Goetzinger officiating.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Wichita's Littlest Heroes, or National MPS Society, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
